Kind words for the Gothic channel on Spinner.com: GOTHICPRESERVATION.COM ~ R.I.P. Multi-channel Internet music service - better than radio ~By Mistress Cinka~ From Tones on Tail to The Cheiftans. From the early days of Rock and Roll to today's favorites. What do you want out of an Internet music service? Good music? Music you like? Bands you've heard of? A selection that lasts longer than 1/2 an hour? Does one exist? When you do come across a decent Internet radio service, the set is short and it's filled with bands you've never heard of! I had stopped listening to them all together. I got bored. I received an email recently, of which the subject was "Gothic and Industrial for the world :-}". Intrigued, I looked it over and eventually followed the link provided. I was whisked away to Spinner.com, a multi-channel internet music service. Interesting. I looked around and floundered a bit, trying to figure out what it was and how it worked. After getting situated, music streamed through my crappy speakers. I almost had to pinch myself, they were playing Current 93, Death in June and Mephisto Walz. It was late so I turned it off and went to bed. The following day I thought I would mess around with it some more and see what was playing. I heard Joy Division, Sisters of Mercy, Peter Murphy, Aurora, more Death in June and more Current 93. It was then I decided this was probably the best internet radio service there is! What else did they have? I wanted to check out the other channels to see if they were as good as the gothic channel. The New Wave channel played Book of Love (something you NEVER hear anywhere anymore), Tones on Tail, Thompson Twins, Til Tuesday, Devo, Soft Cell, Front 242, Dexy's Midnight Runners, even Cocteau Twins. Anyone remember The Lightning Seeds? M? From there a surfed around some more, checked out SKA, Industrial, Swing, Rockabilly...I even checked out Gumbo (reminded me of Convergence, haha). Click to see Channel Listings Overall, Spinner.com has it going on. No matter what mood you're in, they've got it and it's not a bunch of bands you're never heard before, it's all your favorites...all the songs you hear at the clubs, on the radio and in your CD collection. At times I felt like getting up and dancing with The Woobie. No kidding. The search is over! I have found a musical paradise at Spinner.com. Most of you know that I am one picky bitch when it comes to music. Spinner.com won me over and all it took was a few hours of background music while I worked. Like the radio, you don't have control over what's playing. There are some very non-obtrusive commercials every once and a great while (no biggie) and with the Spinner Plus v1.5 (a free download, by the way) you can customize settings and arrange a "favorite channels" tool bar. There is also an option to get more information on the band currently playing. I'm hooked. This is better than radio! Mistress Cinka says, "Check it out, you'll love it". And when do I make claims like that? I highly recommend the New Wave and Gothic Channels. I'm not big on Industrial anymore, but if you are, you will like it. Bands and concerned parties, feel free to contact spinner.com for more info or to submit CD's for the line up.
